Vera Gushee
Vera Gushee is an American astronomer who completed her undergraduate studies at Smith College, where she went on to teach after completing her Master’s at the University of Chicago. A young and enthusiastic student, Gushee wrote many articles throughout her tenure, including on titled, “Practical Use of Mathematics in Astronomy” in 1917. Gushee died at a young age of illness; her final works were compiled by her mother, Helen M. Gushee, and a colleague, Miss Ruth Abbott of Wellesley College. Gushee visited Van Vleck Observatory twice during her time at Smith, first for the American Astronomical Society meeting in 1921, and again two years later for a smaller academic conference.
